Dobhailen was raised as a colt and gelded only in spring 2004. He has got two full brothers: Don Aqui is a hanoverian approved stallion and successful show horse in Germany. The other Dan Jiang sold to California and successfully shows the hunters as well as dressage. Don Aqui first did well with a young lady rider in material classes and young dressage horse tests, then went on to show the young jumper division up to 4'3'' level with his owner and has placed himself in the BC finals of 2003 in eventing.
Dob's sire Don Bosco has also produced the 2001 Verden licensing winner Don Crusador who is standing at stud with the Celle State Stud. Other Don Bosco offspring we've had are SPS Dune (out of Aline), Danzig (out of SPS Farfadet) and Djibouti (out of SPS Alliage)
May 2005 update: Our boy has been to his first two under saddle shows and placed himself in an A-level test for adult horses as well as a young dressage horse test scoring in the mid 7's. He has also passed vetting with flying colors. He is presenting himself with an impeccable mind and is has unflapable temperament that will suit a timid amateur rider as well as a professional.
January 2006 update: Dob has settled in well in Spain. His owner Dalia writes:
Just wanted to wish you a Happy New Year from me and Dob/Lenny
Also as you wanted news about Lenny just to inform you that he had his first jumping session yesterday and did VERY WELL.
We didnt overdo things but he jumped with my jumping teacher and they did cross poles, a vertical at 1’10 and an oxer at 1¨’10 (last jumps)
Just some warm up jumps He didnt knock but alittle clumsy no attention in the beginning, as if he couldnt care less. Then when he had to pay attention at the the bigger ones like oxer he did.
I think he is very smart. He touched once (knock down) and really jumped well the next. He was ridden not free jump. We´ll jump him once a week.
I have done a few days trot poles, and the first time he galloped all three, the next he did it perfect and figured it out.
So basically when he makes a mistake he always improves the next time. So he is definately a trier.,..
Yesterday it was funny. I turned him out next to a 23+ year old who was bucking and farting away... Dob just looked and quietly and politely checked the whole scene out. He is just very very quiet on the ground (thank god!!) and an easy and Light ride for me, imagine I only give a little pressure and he reaches into his gallop so easy! I am also almost a little lazy as he is almost pushbutton imagine at the age of 4!
Also we are working pretty well and he is soft and supple i am just maintaining I guess his work but I must congratulate you on his wonderful start I have never seen a 4 year old so well started!
You bred a smart and wonderful boy and I am proud every day that he is mine (still cant believe it all worked out!)
So one happy mama. Sends you all the best for the New Year!
